London Through a Cabbie's Eye

Back

This hotel is lovely, and it doesn't seem to matter what time of day you visit, the staff are always friendly and welcoming.

For a taxi driver, places like this are worth their weight in gold. They're one of the few places where you can nip in and use the toilet without worrying about a traffic warden waiting outside. Haha.

I've often wondered what it would be like to spend a night here, although I suspect the prices aren't exactly cheap.

What makes it unique, though, is the quote board behind reception. It's full of thoughtful messages and bits of advice that can really make you stop and think or give a hearty laugh.

Take a look at today's one below.

As a matter of fact, while I was writing this page, something unexpected happened.

A school teacher approached me with a small class of children following behind her.

She looked at me and said, "You look like a friendly driver."

Looking rather confused and slightly taken aback by how quickly she'd approached me, I nervously replied, "Yeah, I am." 🤣

She then explained that they were doing a school hunt around town and trying to score points for different challenges.

"For two points," she asked, "would you be able to see how many children can fit in your cab?"

I quickly said, "Yeah, no problem. Climb in."

It's spontaneous moments like this that really make my job worth doing.
