Taxi talk

This week, I'll be sharing a rough guide about what it's like being a London taxi driver and what you need to learn to be one.

What's it like to be one?

This answer may surprise you..

On the outside pretty good. You can work when you want, take days off and holidays when you please.

But if we look just under the surface. we see a whole different picture.

This time of year (January to April) it's a slow time for everyone. People are clearing thier christmas debts and you as a driver could be waiting upto 1hr for a fare to go around the corner.

But there's nothing like seeing your meter going up as you drive. I mean, can you name another job where you see your earnings rise?

Now I enjoy my job, I get to meet lots of people, mostly good ones, but some bad ones exist too.

But you must take the job with the rough and the smooth. Pateince is key, you'll be tested by people walking in the road, Questioning your route, cyclists shooting across red lights and buses forcing thier way onto the road.

How I deal with this is taking regular breaks, going for walks or browsing various shops.

I guess that i dont make this sound very appealing to anyone, but i feel its important to be transparent and give you the real insight.

In my 10 years of exerpience, you always have your bills paid and your belly full, so it's hard to complain about that, but I do work 9-10 hours a day 6/7 days per week.

All this talk has made me feel I've just done a shift haha. Until next time. 👋
