Well... the short answer is yes.
You'll hear plenty of people say the trade isn't what it used to be, but I've got to be honest... I still think it's one of the best jobs you can do.
If you're prepared to put the hours in, there's no reason why you can't earn a good living, pay your bills, support your family, and still have enough left over to enjoy life and even get away on holiday.
One of the things I love most is the flexibility. You're your own boss, so you can work around what's going on in your life. Need a day off? Take one. Fancy finishing early? Go for it. Want to work a little harder for something special? The opportunity is there.
Personally, I treat the job as a day out. I split my time between working and doing whatever takes my fancy, whether that's wandering around London, taking photos, grabbing a coffee, or simply enjoying the city.
So don't let the negative voices put you off. After more than ten years behind the wheel, I can honestly say I've never regretted becoming a London cabbie.
